Assignment #5

In Asignment #5 I am to tell you about how those from Europe, India... managed over the winter, well i found some interesting information at www.saskschools.ca and thecanadianencyclopedia these were very good sites to look up.

Most people were in tents for a long period of time with furniture for their new houses and barns. Houses were made out of wood or sot. Sot was cheaper and more common and it kept cool in summer and warm in winter, but when it rained it leaked. Wood was more expensive because it never leaked, and kept at a good temperature at all times.

People had to get their own food, at first they picked their own food until their crops grew ripe. they sold the food that they got on their own for other necessities people raised cows for milk and meat. Chickens gave meat and eggs. Ducks, Geese, and Pigs were also raised for meat. Horses pulled wagons and plows.

Clothing was made out of wool and linen, Yarn and cloth were dyed and the dye was made from natural ingredients. Often people dyed the sheep before shaving the wool off, to make multicolored cloth.

The hardest part was most likely the cold winters of Canada, they were probably thinking 'An ice age is coming!' It was difficult because the crops can't grow anymore. and there isn't much work to be done so they were thinking they were useless. If their house was made of sot there was most likely that they was snow inside.

I've lived in Canada my whole life so I don't have any tale to speak of, but i can't help but think about how much difficulties their were. I feel lucky that I never had to endure it. Post a message on how you liked this post and your story coming to Canada.

Hi, my name is Jessica R and this is Asignment #1. I am 12 years old and this is my first blog - and it's history - so it has to be interesting. I am really happy that we are using blogs instead of textbooks, even Mrs. Pollock didn't like them. Mrs. Pollock is my history teacher and very cool!
